Reporting to the Sales/General Manager, Metro News Calgary, the suitable applicant will become a member of Metro News energetic and outstanding Creative Services team. We're searching for an enthusiastic Graphic Designer whose profile and working experience reflects that of print, on-line and mobile phone graphic design and who has a very good background of the professional delivery of dead-line driven projects in a remarkably fast-paced environment. The suitable applicant will also have a very good understanding of print designs and production, especially for newspapers and magazine print advertising, and will possess the talent set of a web graphic designer using web-based media.

Major Responsibilities

• Growth and development of creative executions for in-paper retail advertising, online, mobile and printing production awareness .
• Quality assurance of layout and design before delivering to customers.
• Proficient contact with internal and also external clientele.
• All other responsibilities are assigned.

Qualifications of the Position at Metro News

• Experienced in print, online and mobile graphic design and also animation, complete and comprehensive software knowledge like, QuarkXpress, InDesign, Adobe Acrobat/Distiller, Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, Image Ready and Dreamweaver .
• Expert on both PC and Macintosh platforms.
• Understanding in optimizing graphics for web and mobile phone ( optimal file sizes, file formats and so on ) while keeping smaller file sizes.
• Fundamental knowledge of HTML and CSS.
• Potential to prep files fro printing production.
• Skilled in stuffing and FTP experience.
• Professional, personable, approachable with good communication skills ( both spoken and written )
• Potential to flourish in dead-line driven, innovative and vibrant environment with powerful awareness level ( typography, copy, writing and grammar, layout, pictures, color scheme etc )
• Potential to thrive under pressure in fast moving , multi-faceted and dead-line driven atmosphere.
• Needs to be a rapid problem-solver, who starts projects and who takes a pro-active/smart strategy.
• Post secondary qualification or diploma in Web Designs, Animation and/or Graphic Design.
• A marketing background and/or job experience at a company or in marketing would definitely be an asset
• Two to three year design experience within a news media environment
